Chris Long’s paintings, prints and works on paper inhabit an area between abstraction and representation. Starting with free gestures and timed actions, alongside a technique known as decalcomania, Long oscillates between random mark making and the transformation of underlying forms he discovers in the newly applied paint. In each work, the early marks, painted and printed by chance, grow into a new composition of encrusted liminal forms.

The artworks provide an intimate space where viewers are free to explore the painted surface and how paint is able to metamorphose into human, archeological and jewel like shapes.
